A SPECTACLE OF LIGHT & FIRE IN CHURCHILL SQUARE

Join in a final celebration of winter spirit at Illuminations, an original extravaganza of light, fire, performance - and spring! "Illuminations" promises a fire and light spectacle with projections, performances, story telling, music, choirs, ‘mass movement’ performances, Aboriginal artists, plus the festival’s spectacular ‘light-scapes’ of lantern installations. (Audience members are invited to join a public parade at the beginning, and to bring the lanterns that they made at one of the Winter Light lantern making workshops).

Media projections curated by Tim Folkmann include artists aAron Munson, Eva Colmers, Ted Kerr, Patrick Arès-Pilon, and Jeremy Rittwage.

Movement coordinated by Kathy Ochoa will include KO Dance Project, Vibe Tribe, and Edmonton dancers.

Music Director Moni Mathew has booked Wendy McNeill, Andrea House & Chris Smith, Wajjo Drummers, John Calvary, and the Illuminations Choir directed by Jordan van Biert – and many more.

Rebecca Starr will direct two Winter Light story-telling projects, featuring Stephanie Wolfe, Beth Graham and Harvey Anderson.

Lantern and light installations by Memi von Gaza and Dylan Toymaker will be featured.

Plus a host of other Edmonton artists in surprise guest appearances, including Darrin Hagen, Linda Karenko and Andrew Bursey.

Winter Light’s Pamela Anthony directs the show.

As with all Winter Light events, there will be warming fires and tents, fire monsters and hot chocolate - all FREE for the public.

MASS MOVEMENT – OPEN CALL
MASS MOVEMENT EVENT!
Illuminations

where: Churchill Square

OPEN CALL – COME ALONE, BRING A GROUP, OR BE A TEAM LEADER

There will be an easy movement ‘score’ to follow – 4 sections, KO Dance Project, Vibe Tribe, and Team Leaders will coordinate event movement.

Group Team Leaders (and dancers who are able) meet Friday March 20 at 7- 9 pm to learn score and help coordinate groups.

All Mass Movement Participants: REHEARSAL Saturday March 21, 4 – 6 pm

PERFORMANCE: 8 – 11 PM @ ILLUMINATIONS    
Costume: Bring blacks that are able to be painted with glow paint.  Remember warm clothing, warm footwear. Honorarium for participants.
