Winter Light is pleased to present Common Ground, a warm hearted gathering of winter spirit in the inner city.  The theme of the event is finding ‘common ground’ through the sharing of culture.

Common Ground brings together the vibrant people of Edmonton’s downtown community for a celebration of universal themes – tea, visiting, drum and fire. The event includes participants from Aboriginal, African, Italian, Asian and the many other cultures that make Edmonton home.

The event will feature heritage shelters, multicultural tea ceremonies, snow play activity for children, warming fires, hot chocolate and special presentations. A Leadership Circle will bring together people interested in fostering winter spirit and culture in the inner city.

The event is free. Common Ground is produced by Winter Light, and receives support from Heritage Canada, the Edmonton Arts Council.

Participants will include Multi-cultural Health Brokers Cooperative (tea service), Aboriginal Elders Betty Lafferty, Will Campbell, Walter Quinn, Pauline Paulson, African cultural leader Bola, Inuit cultural programmer Goota Desmarais, cultural educator and elder Reuben Quinn, musician and storyteller Sherry Sewapagaham, singer Lyle Tootoosis, cultural craft leaders MJ Moses & Ben Moses, youth cultural educator Taro Hashimoto, and wide variety of drummers, singers and cultural contributors.
